4.2.2 Building Your Personal Brand Through Communication

Communication is where every brand asset gets stress-tested in real time.

Your brand is only as strong as the way you communicate it.

A clear positioning, a sharp BASE statement, and a great LinkedIn profile are necessary but not sufficient. The moment you walk into a room, get on a stage, or join a video call, your brand is being delivered live, and live delivery either reinforces what you've built or undermines it. Menno's principle is that communication is the proving ground: the place where intentional self-presentation either matches the rest of your brand or reveals the gap. The work is to bring deliberate craft to the live channels: how you speak, how you move, how you present, how you respond under pressure.

Four communication channels every Personal Brand needs to develop:

  • Verbal communication: the words, the structure, and the message discipline
  • Non-verbal communication: posture, gesture, facial expression, eye contact
  • Vocal communication: tone, pace, pitch variation, and the use of silence
