4.3.1 LinkedIn Audit: a diagnostic of your online presence

Your LinkedIn profile isn't a CV. It's a stage.

Before anyone meets you, your LinkedIn has already met them.

Recruiters, clients, partners, future colleagues, all of them check your profile before they pick up the phone. The brand isn't waiting for you to walk into the room. It's already speaking in your absence, through whatever you've left up there. The first task is an honest audit of what it's saying.

LinkedIn provides a useful diagnostic called the Social Selling Index. The SSI is a score out of one hundred, made of four components scored out of twenty-five each: how clearly you establish your professional brand, how effectively you find the right people, how well you engage with insights, and how consistently you build relationships through messages. The score is updated daily. Sophie recommends taking a screenshot now and revisiting twice a month, because the dopamine hit of watching it rise is what keeps the work going.

The three pillars every LinkedIn brand sits on:

  • Brand Identity, your headshot, banner, headline, and About section
  • Brand Proof, your experience, skills, endorsements, and recommendations
  • Brand Voice, the content you post, what you feature, and how you engage
