3.1.3 Process 1 — Personal Brand BASE

A foundation isn't a tagline. It's the sentence everything else gets built on.

One sentence. Three variables. Everything else follows.

The Personal Brand BASE goes one level deeper than a value proposition. The formula is simple to memorise and demanding to fill in: I help WHO achieve RESULT through MY SKILL or EXPERIENCE. Each variable rewards specificity. WHO is not the generic "entrepreneurs" but the specific "tech startup founders building in healthtech." RESULT goes beyond a vague promise into a real transformation, sometimes measurable (raise funding, launch in sixty days) and sometimes emotional (gain clarity, feel ready to lead). For SKILL, the answer isn't your job title; it's the mechanism that produces the result, the distinct way you deliver value that others don't.

The three inputs that combine into a BASE:

  • WHO, the audience defined narrowly enough that they recognise themselves
  • RESULT, the transformation they actually want to experience
  • SKILL or EXPERIENCE, the mechanism that makes the result reliable

In this video, Des breaks down the BASE formula, shows three worked examples across product management, healthtech, and creative entrepreneurship, and provides a ChatGPT prompt that generates three to five variations to compare and refine.

Once you have your BASE, your bio, headline, and intro at events all build from there.
